History of Harvest

Beginning in September 1988, Harvest Bible Chapel met in a conference room with 18 followers of Jesus Christ who wanted a different kind of church in the Chicago area—a church where Christ would be worshiped in Spirit and in Truth. God led them to call 27-year-old James MacDonald to be their pastor in Rolling Meadows, Illinois.

By God’s hand, Harvest Bible Chapel has grown into a healthy, functioning fellowship of over 10,000 individuals on five Chicago land campuses.  In 2002 Harvest Bible Fellowship was launched as an organization to facilitate the rapid and dynamic church plant growth that was being experienced. Today, there are Harvest churches all over the United States, Canada, the Caribbean Islands, Europe, Romania and more with the continued desire to plant more Harvest Bible Chapels around the world.

Harvest Woodhull is what Harvest Bible Fellowship calls a church transition.  Harvest Woodhull was formerly known as Faith Christian Church.  FCC started in 1989 as a non-denominational church with only five families.  It started out in the living room of a farm house, but within a year they bought the store front building in downtown Woodhull.

In 1992 they built the sanctuary onto the back of the store front.  In 1994 they purchased the old furniture store building next to them.  The church continued to grow and do God's work in Western Illinois.  In September 2001, Jim Shannon became the pastor of the church.  In 2004 Pastor Jim attended a conference called Straight Up at Harvest Bible Chapel in Rolling Meadows.

At this point Pastor Jim knew there was something different about Harvest and over the next five years Pastor Jim and the leadership of FCC attended other conferences and events at Harvest.  In early 2009 FCC became an affiliate church of Harvest, but there was still a tug upon Pastor Jim's heart that the church was to be more...was to become Harvest Bible Chapel.

So in November of 2009, Pastor Jim and the elders, after much prayer and discussion, talked with the leadership of Harvest Bible Fellowship about transitioning Faith Christian Church into Harvest Bible Chapel.  The Fellowship felt the transition would be good and in early 2010 Pastor Jim attended six weeks of training at Harvest Bible Fellowship. Harvest Woodhull was launched in September 2010.
